Love

Valentines Day is close and love is in the air. I think people over exxagerate the feeling of love. That four letter word is hyped up so much that it's the hype that creates the heartbreak and not the feeling itself.

What is love? Some of you might say I don't know what it is because I haven't fallen in love with anyone yet. But it isn't unchartered territory at all. Everyone has been loved and loved in return. You've always received love since you were a kid. From your mom, from your dad. Your whole family basically. As you grew up, you received it from your best friend if you had one. Each time you gave it back too. So what's different now?

Love, I feel, is like your favourite song. You might have liked it the very moment you heard it, or maybe you grew to like it after some time. But soon you knew it was just perfect. It resonates with the same frequency your mind does, relating to you at various levels. You keep listening to it on repeat. This goes on for days, weeks even. Then maybe you get tired of it. A bit sick of it too. You go listen to other songs. But finally, after a while, you come back to this one. Because it's your favourite. And nothing can beat it.

Its when you like being with a person. When you can't imagine a life without that person. It's when you miss their presence, when you feel like doing stuff just to see them smile. Its when you have so many inside jokes and stories that they can't possibly be kept inside anymore. It's that moment when you want to scream it out to the whole world. When secrets are revealed and created simulataneously. Love is an essence. When every object you see becomes relatable to that one single person, when you see him or her in everything, you know that's it. You can hear them talk through messages, you can feel their smile in a hello.

Love is more than a feeling or emotion. But like other emotions, it's normal too. Love is a way of life. For some people it may be stronger. It is pretty simple actually. Think of yourself emitting radiations. Think of others doing the same. Some of them collide with each other - they're the important ones. Others just pass through without colliding. Those don't matter at all.

People say love makes you crazy. People also say that human beings are selfish. I think those two are closely related. When you love someone, you aren't selfish anymore. You'd do anything for them. Being selfless clashes with nature. And going against nature is what makes you crazy.

Crazy like this adorable snowman

I'm laughing at myself now. On one side I called love natural, on the other side I called it against nature. I called it simple a few paragraphs ago and now I'm about to call it as complicated as counting stars in the galaxy is going to get.

Because love, at the end of the day, is present in every conflicting emotion. Naturally, it will be conflicting itself as well! It is there when you're angry, it exists when you are sad. It's present when you're on cloud nine and it's even there when you aren't on a cloud at all.

Wherever there is life, there is love. And wherever you find love, you'll definitely find life.

Living Moments

It's been really long since I posted. Obama came to India, I learned how to curl and straighten hair and I finished around 20,000 words of a book I'm attempting to write only to realise that I'll have to start all over again. But there's a reason behind why I decided to post something.

I had an epiphany today. And that was about how I've never had an epiphany before this, which was a life changing thought, because that explains exactly why I've never got a feeling that my life has undergone a drastic transformation. Or maybe I'm just trying to shift the blame for my not-so-exciting-at-the-moment life, from mental inertia to my inability to have an epiphany. But again, you can't bring yourself to have one whenever you want.

What exactly do you mean by an epiphany though, you ask?  A magical revelation that puts the puzzle pieces together, epiphanies are miraculous thoughts. An epiphany, I think, is a moment. It's a moment which makes the world stand still as it fleets away in its own glory. It's when you make a revelation which affects you at am intellectual and/or emotional level.

Our life is made up of so many moments. Think back to all the cherished memories you have. What are they? Technically, they're nothing but electric currents making their way through the nerves in your head. They're electric currents that conjure up images, one after another, enabling you to visualize moments taken place in the near and far present. The same electric currents also allow you to create visions of future moments that may never happen. I love how we live moments that have taken place and may never take place as well.

What's actually sad about moments is that probably we don't always live it when it is taking place. Human beings think all the time. The thinking process never stops. Like right now, while typing this, I'm simultaneously thinking about the next paragraph and whether this post is going to get those gears inside people's heads moving. When I do well in an exam, I'm thinking about how I could do better, or wondering what had made me slack the previous time. I've got four months of studying on my list, but instead of focusing on them, I'm too busy dreaming about the supposedly exciting aftermath. It's like dreaming about dessert while you've got the main course in front of you. Fruitless, as you don't get dessert till you finish your maincourse anyway.

That is where most of us go wrong. We don't live in the moment. We're stuck either in the past or the future, thinking up possibilities. Possibilities that won't happen unless you focus on the present in the first place.

Get over the transience of moments and start being a part of them completely!
